Mission

The Black Fives Foundation (www.blackfives.org) works to research, preserve, showcase, teach, and honor the pre-NBA history of African Americans in basketball.

Purpose

The purpose of our efforts include activities that:

  • uncover more details from this fascinating aspect of American history
  • conserve the narratives and artifacts related to the black basketball experience during this historically important time
  • highlight, exhibit, and celebrate early African American basketball artifacts,
  • encourage understanding of early African American basketball history as an essential cultural genre,
  • advocate for the proper recognition of early African American basketball pioneers

Corporate Details

The Internal Revenue Service recognizes the Black Fives Foundation (BFF) as a public charity that is tax-exempt under Section 501(c)3 of the Internal Revenue Code. Contributions to BFF are tax deductible in the U.S.A. under Section 170 of the Code. Bequests, devises, transfers, and/or gifts to the Foundation are also tax deductible under Sections 2055 and 2522 of the Code.

Our Federal Tax ID # is 46-1925488. A copy of our IRS determination letter is available here for your review or download.

The BFF was incorporated in January 2013 with the Department of Consumer and Regulatory Affairs in Washington, DC.

We rely on funding from corporate partners, grant making institutions, licensing royalties, fundraising events, private and in-kind donations, and through the generous contributions of individual supporters like you.
